If you are an existing Verizon customer and want to activate a new device, this guide will help. In this blog, you will learn how to activate a new Verizon phone or certified pre-owned smartphone.


The following activation instructions will come in handy for both upgrading and new customers who have bought a new 4G LTE or 5G Ultra Wideband smartphone from Verizon.


You can activate your new Verizon phone in two steps.


1. Step 1 – Back up Contacts and Content from Old Phone: You need to take a backup of your contacts, photos, apps, and more via Verizon Cloud or Google Drive, or Apple iCloud. If you choose Verizon Cloud, here’s how you can take back up of your things from your old phone.


  • Open Verizon Cloud App: Open the Verizon Cloud app from your old phone. Don’t have it yet? You can download the app from the Google Play Store.

  • “Get Started”: First time using Verizon Cloud? You need to select “Get Started”.

  • Grant Access: To grant access to your contacts, photos, and videos, tap the switches on.

  • Enter Email Address: Provide your email address if prompted to receive important info about your account.

  • Learn More: You may wish to learn more about what Verizon Cloud offers. You can tap “Dismiss” if you don’t want to learn more.

2. Step 2 – Activate and Set up New Smartphone: Get hold of your new phone and turn it on. Now, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation process. The status bar will let you know when you are using data on a 4G LTE or 5G Ultra Wideband network.


How to Activate New Verizon Phone – For Upgrading Customers Activation Instructions


For 5G Ultra Wideband smartphone customers, they must use the SIM pre-installed in your device. If they use a previous SIM, it may not bring the best results, hence your phone may not properly activate.


1. Step 1 – Back up Contacts and Content from Old Phone: Take back up of your contacts, photos, apps, and more via Google Drive or Verizon Cloud, or Apple iCloud. If you choose Google Drive, here’s how you can take back up of your things from your old phone.


  • Open App Menu: Tap the Apps icon from the Home screen of your phone.

  • Open Google Drive: Look for your Drive app in a Google folder and tap the Drive app.

  • Tap the Menu icon.

  • Tap “Settings”.

  • Auto Add Photos: Turn on the “Auto Add” switch (under the section “Google Photos”). This will allow photos to be restored and backed up.

  • Tap “Backup and Reset”.

  • Tap “Google Backup”.

  • Turn on Back up to Google Drive: Tap the switch to turn on if necessary and confirm back up to Google Drive.

  • Verify Google Account: Tap “Account” and then verify your correct Google account name. You may also add a new account.

  • Tap App data.

  • Turn on Automatic Restore: Turn on the Automatic Restore switch and tap the Back icon. You will now return to the Settings page.

  • Back up to Google Drive: Tap “Back up now”.

  • You’re Done: Make sure you follow the steps as mentioned. This will complete the backup process in a hassle-free way.


2. Step 2 – Activate and Set up New Smartphone: Get hold of your new phone and turn it on. Now, follow the on-screen prompts to complete the activation process.
